2010 ACUI Recreation and Quiz Bowl Tournament
University of Wyoming
February 5-7, 2010
Hello Region 13!
It is that time again, the time to begin planning for the ACUI Recreation and NAQT Tournament. The dates for the tournament are February 5-7, 2010. The ACUI Recreation Program allows students from your institution to interact and compete with other students from a five state region (Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, New Mexico and Arizona). Students that compete in the tournament learn and develop leadership and learn about life long leisure activity skills that promote a life time of health.
The University of Wyoming will be the host this year and has done a great job getting facilities. The events at this year’s tournament will be Table Tennis (Men’s and Women’s), Billiards (Men’s and Women’s), and Guitar Hero. The tournament entry fees will be $60.00 (by January 27th) and $75.00 (by February 3rd) for each participant. This fee includes all game play, two meals, awards ceremony, a t-shirt, and all ACUI fees.
The National Academic Quiz Team NAQT
As many of you know, the College Bowl program no longer exists within ACUI. Instead, we are beginning to form a relationship with the National Academic Quiz Team (NAQT). Because NAQT is structured differently from College Bowl, groups must put bids in to have a sectional. Because of this, the NAQT tournament will not be in the same location as the rest of the Regional Recreation Tournament. Instead of being held in Wyoming, NAQT will be hosted by Arizona State University on February 6, 2010. This tournament is open to all of Region 13 and any other schools within the area. The tournament will follow all NAQT game play rules and guidelines. For more information about NAQT rules and sample questions, please visit www.naqt.com.
NAQT is a separate registration from the recreation tournament. If you would like to sign up for the NAQT tournament, please click to register here.
For more information please contact Kenneth Lan at kenneth_lan@yahoo.com.
The closest hotels to ASU are the Four Points Sheraton and the Twin Palms. Both hotels are pretty much on the ASU campus and within walking distance of the ASU Memorial Union. Tournament play begins the morning of February 6, 2010.Billiards and Table Tennis
Billiards will follow the Billards Congress of America rules of play for 9-ball competition. The tournament will be a grouping round robin format during the day with a single elimination tournament to determine the champion. This competition does serve as a qualifying tournament for the ACUI Intercollegiate 9-ball Championship.
The Table Tennis competition will follow National Collegiate Table Tennis Association rules of play. The tournament will be a round robin format during the day with a single elimination playoff bracket to determine the champion. This competition serves as a qualifying tournament for the College Table Tennis National Championships.
The Guitar Hero Competition will be a double elimination tournament. Players will be randomly paired up at the start of each match with the player who wins best 2 out of 3 songs advancing. All games will be played on either an Xbox 360 or Nintendo Wii and controllers will be provided. However, you are allowed to bring your controller as long as it is compatible with one of the consoles mentioned above. The first tier of the tournament will be played in Hard mode. Afterwards, all songs will be played in Expert mode. This tournament does not qualify you for any further competitions.
